OLD announcements below:

READINGS FOR MONDAY JANUARY 10th have been sent to all of you as an attachment to an e-mail.  By Tuesday's class, you should have read the first two articles in the attachment (sources 1 & 2).  Contact me right away if you haven't gotten this attachment.

This Saturday (Jan. 8 - any time) you have the second installment of your "progress report" on your paper/presentation.  By this day you must have decided whether you are presenting or prefer the paper only option.  NO changing topic or option (presentation vs. paper only) after this date.
*Your bibliography must be included in the progress report (the bibliography that you actually have available should be first - You may include a second bibliography with any source which you hope to see, but haven't gotten your hands on yet).

Dec. 27   Olander, "Announcement regarding make-up work for the snow day."
1) You should have read already "Because I was drunk and the Devil".  Be prepared for a quiz on this article when you get to class on Tuesday.  The quiz is just one of the questions from the homework assignment (don't panic - there are no surprises).
If you planned to turn in the homework for this article on paper in class today (Monday Dec. 27) - it's fine.  Bring it to class on Tuesday December 28.

2) Do the reading assigned for today : S. Ramirez, "Institutions of the Spanish American Empire...".  This reading and accompanying questions are now complete on the blog. (see post Dec. 17 )

3)  Leave a comment on the article by Ramirez (on the blog).  You can ask a question if there is something in the article you don't understand or make any other comment on the content.  Originally you would have read that article after I had had a chance to explain one or two things in class - so, don't hesitate to ask a question.  I'll try to look at your comments around 7 this evening and I'll post my own comment then.

4)  Instead of today's class, you must type an answer to ALL of the questions posted with the Ramirez article (again, it is the Dec. 17 post). You should e-mail me those answers any time before tomorrow's class.  Because this is a snow day make-up, please take some time with your answers.  Look for connections within the reading or with other readings or discussion we have done in this class.  This homework assignment will be worth three regular homework assignments.
5) I will be available throughout the day until 7 pm to answer e-mails or comments.
